Material https://www.railwaymagazine.co.uk/egip-wires-advance-towards-alloa/)A call has been made for Essex County Council to take action to secure Government funding for research inti re-opening railway lines and stations across Essex that were closed under the Beeching review.

Councillor David Kendall (Brentwood) asked the Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Infrastructure to act. He said, "This vital research will show which stations, by being reopened, could improve connectivity across Essex to improve prosperity across the county."

The Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Infrastructure said, "I have already asked our officers at Essex County Council (ECC) to contact the Department for Transport (DfT). They have indeed written to the dedicated DfT email contact address and ECC contacts within the DfT rail team seeking additional information and guidance with respect to the fund.

Officers have also undertaken a review of projects thought to be seeking funding and an initial review of closed lines in Essex to consider scope for re-opening.'
