Indecisive Labour-run Harlow Council cause waste pile up

RESIDENTS in Bush Fair are dealing with a pile-up of food waste after a sudden pause of collections, from Labour-run Harlow Council, failed to give residents enough notice.

Due to a van breakdown and a shortage of staff residents in Bush Fair won't have their green bins emptied for more than 4 weeks. The announcement to pause green bin collections and the advice to use their black bins instead was made just hours after many residents had their black bins emptied.

Local campaigner Will Tennison said 'I am deeply concerned at the prospect of residents not having a regular bin collection for such a long period of time. If Harlow Council had been more decisive, residents would have had a chance to empty their food waste into their black bins this morning.

After speaking to the council today I was told there was no plan for extra services and that residents would just have to put up with the situation. I find this completely unacceptable.'

The Lib Dems are calling on Harlow Council to urgently make up the missed rubbish collections and, in future, to provide guidance much earlier to give residents a chance to respond.
