Election successes in Southend

Carole MulroneyYou will have seen the results of the recent elections for Southend-on-Sea Borough Council. The Liberal Democrats had a strong night. We didn't get all the results we had hoped for, but, with the re-election of Peter Wexham in Leigh and the changes in other parties' fortunes, we have enhanced our vital position on the Council and can continue to work for a brighter, greener future for Southend, ensuring investment in the town and support for vital services.

Our strong results in a number of wards give us a good position to build on for next year's elections. In Eastwood Park, West Leigh and Westborough, our candidates Rob McMullan, Katie Kurilecz, David Webb and Suzanna Edey saw results that put the Liberal Democrats in a good strategic position for 2022.

The results from elections across the country show that the shift in political allegiances continues, with the Liberal Democrats gaining historic wins proving that there is a desire and a need for us to champion liberal values in our local communities. In particular, the Essex County Council elections were held on the same day and:

  • A great friend of Southend Lib Dems, Craig Cannell, won the seat of Rayleigh North, and

  • Liberal Democrats won the majority of the seats in Chelmsford.

Thank you to everyone who helped us achieve this result. We are a party of local people working hard on local issues and we won Leigh and improved our standing because of your dedication and support. We are reviewing our strategies from next year so we can build on these successes. If you would like to be involved or are interested in volunteering please get in touch. Together we can and will win.

Thank you and best wishes,

Cllr Carole Mulroney, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Southend-on-Sea Borough Council

PS: If you haven't already, you can see our full plans and budget for Southend Council on our website HERE.

PPS: Please enter the Liberal Democrat Summer Draw. The Liberal Democrats rely, especially at a local level, on small donations from individuals like you. We've never had the big business or trade union cash the other parties can count on. There are lots of prizes, including cash. The more you buy, the more Southend Liberal Democrats will benefit! But, due to a recent change in the law, please pay by bank debit card, not by credit card.
